Parents Are the Coolest. Especially Mine.

Helllllllllllo everyone! After a cool 2+ months of abandoning the blogging world for things like grad school, I’m back! As of late, life of the McG’s has consisted of work, school, trying out new restaurants in Lubbock, hanging out with new friends, attending Texas Tech sporting events and watching House of Cards!  Spencer really likes his job and the people he works with and I’m really liking grad school despite the homework, exams and SOAP notes! My professors are some of the smartest people in the world, the girls in my class are really sweet and I love all my patients! We’re plugged into an Acts 29 church called Redeemer that we really like. We’re in a Gospel Community (aka GC, aka small group) that we love! It’s so cool to be apart of a tight knit group of people who are encouraging each other and growing together in Christ. No complaints about life in Lubbock!

Anyways, back to who this post is about. Look who showed up on our doorstep this past weekend!

I swear, my Dad scheduled this weekend visit sometime over the summer, so you could say I had been looking forward to it for a while. 😉
When my parents used to visit me in Las Cruces, we basically had a set schedule for Saturdays. Go to the Farmer’s Market, then go to Chopes. Since Spencer and I are now Lubbockites, we had to make a new schedule!

After a Saturday morning Skype date with Jordan, Emily and Malcolm, we played some tennis at a park near our apartment. Man, I LOVE playing tennis with my parents. It’s become a comfort activity for me, because it’s something we’ve always done. Starting out, I was hitting with my Mom and Spencer and my Dad were hitting. Let’s be real about one thing: Spencer has only held a tennis racquet a few times in his life, but my Dad just kept feeding him balls, encouraging him and giving little tips here and there. I thought, “Wow, my Dad is so incredibly patient”. Then I remembered how my Dad taught me how to play tennis, starting when I was 3 or 4 years old. Of course, I don’t remember, but he says he started by just having me hold the racquet, and he would bounce the tennis ball and make sure that it hit my racquet without me having to do anything; then we progressed on.
Looking back, one of the things I appreciate the most about my parents is how they encouraged and supported me in all of my sporting activities. My Dad coached me in basketball until I reached the middle school level; and he coached me in soccer and tennis from the time I very first started to the time I graduated high school. And my Mom was at every game/match. Rain or shine, no matter what town, she was there in the stands being my #1 fan. I can’t thank these guys enough for what they’ve done for me!

Okay, sappy schpeal over. Here are the pics.

Clearly, some people don’t know how to get their game face on.

After our tennis adventures, we went to the Jones to support our Red Raiders! #wreckem

Mega blurry picture, sorry about it.

Cousin Marisha and good friends Kathy and Craig Curry joined us!

It poured rain on us for the first half of the game (and they were all sold out of plastic ponchos), but we still had a blast! And Tech won!

After the game, we went to BJs, which had an HOUR AND A HALF wait time. Just as I was about to protest and suggest another restaurant, my Dad started raving about his favorite BJs dessert. A triple chocolate pizookie. Dead. I’ll wait any amount of time for that amount of deliciousness. P.S., well played Dad, well played. I was dying so much over the pizookie that I forgot to take a picture. Bummer. Guess I’ll have to go back and order ANOTHER pizookie and snap a picture of the beauty to share with you all.

IMG_5110I did snap a pic of my cute hunee while we were waiting. Woah, sweet Tech gear! (I may or may not have begged my parents to take us to Red Raider Outfitter and purchase some swanky TT gear for us.)

Sunday, we woke up for church, ate lunch at McAlisters (my fav) and my Mom and I made a mandatory trip to TJMaxx (also my fav) while the boys watched football. Unfortunately, Sunday afternoon rolled around too quickly and it was time for my parents to leave. RIP big time.

Aren’t they the cutest?

Needless to say, we had a great time with my parents this past weekend and were so sad to see them leave. I’m so blessed to have such fun, cool, wise, loving and supportive parents. Come back soon, guys!  XOXO
