Honeymooners: Cancun Style

That’s right, we’re officially “The McGuires”, and that’s the kiss that sealed the deal!

One of my very favorite things about my husband is his ability to foresee things.  He knew I was interested in Texas Tech for graduate school, so he started putting in job applications before a final decision had been made.  He knows I hate dirty cars, so he had his car detailed before the wedding so my pretty dress wouldn’t get dirty upon leaving the venue. He also knew I could possibly be interested in doing a little bloggy-blog action in the future, so he purchased the domain name alimcguire.com for me!  So basically, I better use this blog.

I decided to use my very first blog entry to tell you guys about our honeymoon in Cancun, (gifted to us by the McGuire parents). I know what you’re thinking, “there’s only ONE THING that goes on during a honeymoon and I am not trying to read an update on that.” But stick with me, we did venture out of the room during the week!

The first thing we noticed from our hotel’s private beach is how breathtakingly gorgeous the ocean was. Looking out, we could see four shades of blue as the ocean progressed. P.S. These pictures don’t really do it justice.

I’ve always wanted to swim with dolphins, (okay let’s be real, I’ve always wanted to kiss a dolphin), so we hopped on a ferry to Isla Mujeras, and that dream became a reality.

I think it was secretly Spencer’s dream as well. 😉

The dolphins were so well trained. There was never a moment where I was thinking, “uh oh. Rogue dolphin. R.I.P. me.”

This is THE BEST part of the entire experience. The foot push. Basically, you lay in the middle of the water on your stomach, feet and arms out (like Superman). The trainer man blows his little whistle and BAM the dolphins are right behind you, pushing your feet with their noses, and you’re flying across the water, ninja style.

At the end of my “foot push”, the dolphins decided to toss me into the air so I could land ever so gracefully in front of the other tourists. (Not captured by the photographer).

After swimming with the dolphins, we ate some free lunch, (side note: never trust the hotdogs in Mexico) and sun bathed for a few hours on this sweet dock.

The other excursion we went on was a four-in-one kind of a deal. We went snorkeling with sea turtles, cave swimming, zip lining and repelling. Yes, this was an all day event.

Prepping for zip lining.

Flights upon flights of stairs later we were a little freaked out and a little ready-for-action all in one.

This was my first repelling experience and I was slightly nervous about it all. I knew I needed to man up when our guide said, “Go whenever you’re ready. Sometime today please.”

We also ate at some swanky restaurants, Puerto Madero and The Thai Lounge. Puerto Madero had straight up TO DIE FOR food. Spencer ordered crab tacos that killed me. I wanted to eat them all! This is the chocolate soufflé we ordered for dessert. Delish.

The Thai Lounge had an absolutely gorgeous atmosphere. We ate in our own private hut that was on stilts above the water. This picture does it no justice because the sun had already set, but just imagine a beautiful lagoon stretching out behind us!

Spencer and I are now settling into our new apartment in Lubbock, Texas. Pictures of the home to come soon!
